SHIP TRAFFIC ASSISTANT

SHIP TRAFFIC ASSISTANT: Apart from Lashing man, Ship Traffic Assistant plays an important role in loading/unloading the vessel. Normally, it is the general term according to the job nature onboard the vessel, Stevedore. Stevedore means one who loads/unloads a vessel. Particularly, Stevedore becomes ship traffic assistant when he becomes eligible to handle the radio set for the communications between himself and the Quay crane operator, Wharf operating Supervisor, Foreman of Stevedores, and the control centre of the Port, etc., On arrival of the vessel, he get the Sequence that includes Discharging/Loading plans. Then, he gives to his gang to unlash/lash according to the sequence he had. He is the main person and incharge of the bays from which the containers to be discharged/loaded. Here, I give one picture that shows a ship traffic assistant guides quay crane operator to close the hatch cover of a bay of a container vessel.
